Information About Refused Non-Immigrant Visas

If your application has been refused, you will always receive an information letter from the Embassy that explains the reason for your ineligibility along with your documents.

  • 221(g) - (Insufficient documentation) indicates that the applicant must submit additional documents to the Consular Officer. Those applicants are usually given a list of missing items and may submit those documents as soon as they are able to obtain them. There is no need to pay a new application fee if submitting the documents at the same location within one year of initial application.
  • 214(b) - (Not enough binding ties) indicates that the applicant must prove in a more specific manner that his/her “roots“ are in France. It is strongly recommended that the applicant wait until his or her circumstances have changed considerably or other compelling reasons before reapplying. We urge applicants to wait at least 1 year before re-applying or when their situation has changed considerably. Applicant must pay for a new US $100 visa application fee if they apply for another visa.

Please note that this Visa Information Service provides information on Non-Immigrant Visas and application procedures, as well as scheduling Non-Immigrant Visa appointments if one is required. A specific explanation regarding why your visa application may have been refused is not available from this service.

Information regarding the refused visa may be found in the letter that is received by each applicant explaining the reason for the refusal.
